CHANEL

Elegance does not consist in putting on a new dress.  Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.

Chanel Memory Lane

Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel started her design career by making hats and selling them in Paris.  Next came the clothing, then the perfume and later the handbags, shoes, cosmetics and sunglasses.  She retired and moved from Paris to play.  When she moved back to Paris at the age of 71 she decided to get back in the game and brought Chanel back from faded and forgotten glory to one of the top design houses.  She died in 1971.

Marilyn Monroe was one of their first spokesmodels for Chanel No.5 and Catherine Deneuve in the 1970s became the Chanel No.5 spokesmodel.

Chanel's Inventions

Chanel was the creator of the little 'black dress,' the suit--two piece and three piece, and the skirt jacket.  She also invented the quilted purse with a chain handle and her first jewelry pieces were one black pearl and one white pearl.  And, last and definitely not least, she created the cardigan. Where would we be without that wardrobe must have?

The Look

Coco Chanel kept things simple and by doing so, she changed the face of fashion.  She hated all of the frills and corsets, instead she created simple, feminine clothing that was comfortable and moved with the woman's body.  Her influence is still seen in todays clothing lines.

Chanel Cruise Wear 2009

The Cruise Line is elegant--of course, comfortable and yet familiar. Some pieces are structured and beautifully tailored, while others are loose and flowing.

Laird Borrelli-Persson of Style.com said, "The 74-look collection mixed rock 'n' roll with seventies swing and high glamour, all rendered with Lagerfeld's forward-minded attitude."
